IVR (interactive voice response)

IVR is the automated phone menu that answers a call with recorded prompts and routes the caller according to the keys they press or the words they say.

Practices use IVR to route their own callers, and insurance companies use it in front of their provider-services lines. Getting through a payer's IVR is a large share of the time billing staff spend on the phone.
